In a visionary move, PALM leadership conducted its first-ever lifestyle medicine camp in the remote, underserved area of Malam Jabba, KPK. Led by Dr. Shagufta Ferozโknown for her strong advocacy for health equityโthe PALM team addressed a community with limited access to healthcare and significant language barriers. Despite the challenges, the camp saw a large turnout, especially among women.
As part of PALMโs subdomain ๐ฃ๐๐ฏ๐น๐ถ๐ฐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น๐๐ต ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐ ๐ช๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ป๐ฒ๐๐, which focuses on practical approaches to advancing the health equity mission, this initiative brought lifestyle medicine directly to those most in need. Initially, Awareness sessions were delivered by Dr. Shagufta Feroz and simultaneously translated into the local language. These sessions were followed by personalized consultations, where the PALM team provided lifestyle medicine prescriptions that reinforced the key principles shared earlier in sessions. Antenatal lifestyle advice was also given where needed.
A wide range of chronic and infectious diseases were seen, including diabetes, tuberculosis in youth, stroke, substance abuse, and Nutritional deficiencies leading to Stunted growth and Anemiaย were prevalent. Dehydration and poor diet were common concerns.ย
Dr. Shagufta Feroz emphasized that with regular follow-up camps, disease burden can be greatly reduced, as the local population has shown eagerness to learn and adopt healthier habits. This initiative marks a new chapter in delivering lifestyle medicine where itโs needed most.
